Welsh TV duo open our home!

Last updated: 8.44am, Thursday 18th May 2017 by

Popular Weatherman Derek Brockway and Welsh TV presenter Rebecca John officially opened our home on Friday.

BBC meteorologist Derek and Rebecca kicked off the grand opening at Tŷ Llandaff with some short speeches and by unveiling a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

This was followed by a champagne reception, a tour of the facilities, buffet lunch and an afternoon of entertainment. Our guests included the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Monica Walsh, many previous respite residents and friends of Tŷ Llandaff who had travelled from around the UK to make it to the day.

Both Derek, who is best known for TV show ‘Weatherman Walking’, and Rebecca chatted with our residents and guests. Derek treated everyone to a tongue-in-cheek weather forecast, while we also had several professional portraits of residents captured by keen photographer Rebecca on display.

The TV reporter, who lives in Pontcanna, had previously visited the care home to take photographs of residents who agreed to be involved in her photography project entitled ‘New Home’.

Home manager Janice Evans said: “We were delighted that Derek and Rebecca could officially open Tŷ Llandaff care home. They are both very popular locally and many of the residents were looking forward to meeting them.

“We had a lot of interest in the event and so pleased that so many of our guests could make it. Everyone was treated to live music, Welsh poetry readings and balloon artistry as well as a delicious lunch and some fizz!

“We are all very proud of the exceptional care and facilities we offer at Tŷ Llandaff and we were excited to share that with everyone attending our official open day.”
