Stay active, eat well and you too could live to 101, says our first resident, Daniel!
Highly-decorated former Royal Engineer celebrating his 101st birthday says the secret to reaching over a century is keeping fit and having a good diet.
Centenarian Daniel Rosewell is the first permanent resident to live at Tŷ Llandaff! Daniel celebrated his big day with a family lunch at Cedar Tree Farm in Ferry Road followed by a party in the evening at Peterstone Lakes Golf Club in Peterstone Wentloog which more than 60 people attended. The Army hero was chauffeur-driven to the golf club in a vintage 1934 Armstrong Siddeley car.
Daniel, who was born in Roath, Cardiff, fought for the duration of the Second World War, seeing action against the Germans and Italians in Africa and Europe before returning home in 1945. He married in Betty in 1939 and the couple were together for 78 years. He had three children, the first of whom was six months old when he went to war. By the time Danny returned to England, his baby son, Paul, was six.
Brave Daniel received five medals including the Defence Medal, Italy Star, Africa Star, the 1939-45 Star and 1939-45 Medal. When he left the Army, he continued to work in engineering and also owned his own furniture removals business.
Daniel has always been keen on keeping fit and played indoor bowls until he was 90. Asked what the secret might be to living to 101, he said: “I’ve always led an active life and eaten well so maybe that’s the secret although everything in moderation!
“I broke in my arm and had a chest infection so am now at Tŷ Llandaff as it seemed the perfect choice. I’m honoured to be its first resident! It is ideal for me because it’s a good location for my family and friends to come and see me. The food is marvelous, top of the bill and the staff are wonderful.”
Janice Evans, care home manager at Tŷ Llandaff, said: “We are so pleased to welcome Daniel as our first permanent resident at Tŷ Llandaff. He is great fun and brings a smile to all of the team’s faces here, every day. We are proud to be able to offer him the quality of care and standard of life that he deserves and enjoys at our luxury home.”
A big welcome to you Daniel from everyone at Tŷ Llandaff.
